By far, it’s the most popular wall mount hoop on amazon. Also, the cheapest on our list and probably on the market as well costing only tens of bucks, that makes it a real deal for the people who’re really tight on their budget but still want to play in the comfort of their home.
It’s different on our list because it’s designed for indoor use only. Which means you don’t need a powder-coated frame or an all-weather net. This is possibly the primary reason behind its ridiculously cheap price tag.
Being cheap doesn’t mean you get a low-quality hoop. Its polycarbonate backboard is shatterproof and the rim is spring-action breakaway that you usually find on full-sized systems. Its design is durable for light use for kids allowing them to practice including dunking. The thick padding at the bottom of the backboard will save you from injuries.

Moreover, it’s not a pro-quality hoop for serious and heavy use. But honestly and realistically you shouldn’t expect much more than what it offers for the price.
So, if you want a hoop for an indoor activity that is portable and cheap as well, especially for your home office or child’s room, then look no further than the SKLZ Pro Mini. This wall mount hoop is really a steal for the price.
In addition to being known for making NBA quality basketballs, Spalding is one of the biggest basketball hoop making companies with an extensive product line of all three types of basketball system.
This Spalding goal is a combination of frame, backboard and rim. The backboard is made up of polycarbonate material and mid-sized measuring 44 inches wide and 30 inches high and the Slam Jam breakaway rim is specially designed with the slam dunkers in mind offering the right amount of flex.
Though its backboard is made up of polycarbonate material, it still offers excellent rebound action, but not as good as acrylic or tempered glass. The only thing that limits its use only to the kids and teens is its small size that might not be best for serious players. Contrarily, it’s small size is a big plus when you don’t have much space on your garage wall.
The white all-weather net and powder-coated frame are designed to bear the weather elements without rusting and other damage. You can mount it on a wall, the garage, the roof or even on the round or square poles to have a good play area.
It doesn’t come with a bracket, so you need to buy a compatible mounting kit separately. This is a good thing in a way that you can opt for a fixed bracket for a fixed height or an adjustable bracket allowing to change the rim height, whichever suits you best. It wouldn’t take more than an hour to set up and install and get started.
So, if you want a well-built but affordable and easy to assemble wall-mount hoop system for kids, teens and players who are just starting, Spalding polycarbonate makes a good choice. Moreover, the 5-year warranty gives you peace of mind.
5. RAMgoal Durable Goal –
Most budget-friendly hoops don’t last enough for the price, they are flimsy and made cheaply but this Ramgoal hoop comes with a robust design with flexible adjustments.
The backboard is made up of acrylic material that makes it shatter-resistant, so it should serve you for a good time. Talking about the size it measures only 24 inches wide by 16 inches height where the frame is made up of 16 gauge powder-coated steel. The professionally designed rim is breakaway and 9 inches in diameter. All these features should work great for kids enabling them to develop strong fundamental skills and for your family.
Since it’s backboard is small, making it a best fit for kids and beginners, the other thing that supports this fact is its height adjustability. You can up or down the backboard in a total of 13 inches which means kids of all ages and height will be able to enjoy basketball indoors. Moreover, it mounts 22 inches away from the wall giving you space under the hoop so you can operate from underneath as well and versatile your game play.
When buying an indoor mini basketball, most people worry about stability and mounting. With this RAMgoal system, you don’t have to worry about this because it comes with two fitting studs with a 16 inches distance in between, to hang it on the doors easily and instantly. And you are done with mounting it, you can start playing immediately with the included basketball.
So, if you want an indoor wall-mount hoop that’s durable, and offers adjustability for kids of all ages and beginners to practice and master the basketball skills, this mini goal is a great purchase for the budget.
Goalsetter has made another spot in basketball hoops in general.
The primary difference in this and the above-mentioned hoop is the backboard material type. The above mentioned has an acrylic backboard whereas this comes with a tempered glass backboard, which is the best of all three material types and offers true rebound.
It offers top of the line features including design, adjustability and probably anything you would expect from a pro-quality in-ground or portable hoop system. Interesting to mention that just like the other Goalsetter mentioned above, this also comes in different sizes as following:
- 54″ x 36”
- 60″ x 38″
- 72″ x 42″
Allowing you to opt for any of them, especially the full size 72 inch is pretty crazy. But you must consider the fact that the larger the hoop becomes, the weigher it weighs. So, the heavyweight of nearly 200 pounds and being extended out 3 feet from the wall will make its installation a real job. And if you lack DIY skills, you might need to hire a professional to install it correctly, that would be an additional cost.
But all this effort is worth if you want an adjustable rim. Moreover, the 3 feet space between the wall and rim gives you good space underneath the rim to make your game more fun. So, it’s a complete package for an intense and avid basketball player costing between $1200 and $1700 depending on what backboard and rim you choose.
In short, this Goalsetter mounted hoop is very close to the official basketball hoops that make it a worth buy for serious players who want to take their game to the professional level.
The Buying Guide
The backboard is arguably the most important factor of your basketball hoop. And when it comes to the material of which backboards are made, there are three different types named polycarbonate, acrylic and tempered glass.
Polycarbonate is the cheapest of all, extremely durable and very less likely to break during normal use, but they offer the least amount of bounce on shots or give a feel of dead performance in general.
Moving next, the acrylic is mid-priced. Acrylic material is also fairly durable, but it performs much better than its polycarbonate counterparts, but not like professional gym hoops.
Lastly, the tempered glass is the most expensive backboard material of all but the cream of the crop, top of the line. This is what you see in gyms or pros playing with, it’s known to give the peak performance amongst all three. But, the downside is, it’s the least durable.
So, if you’re primarily looking for a hoop for kids or beginners, you should look for durability. Which means buying a polycarbonate backboard is advisable, not tempered glass. But, if you’re an adult with somewhat pro-skills, you would want performance with tempered glass.
And families of kids, teens and adults who want a balance between durability and performance can rely on acrylic backboards because they work for most people.
Regardless of the type of material, the quality of the blackboard also depends on the thickness.
Whether you should buy a fixed height or adjustable hoop? It depends on who’s / how many people are going to use the hoop. If the hoop is intended to be used by a single adult player, there is no harm in opting for a fixed height hoop.
But if there are multiple players in your family of different heights and ages such as kids, teens and adults, then it’s advisable to look for a hoop with height adjustability. Because when kids need to play you can lower the hoop, and the other times when you challenge your buddy, you can increase the height to standard 10 feet.
And of course, you will have to spend a little more money to get your hands on the height-adjustable hoop, but if you think of it for the longer term, it is surely worth the extra money you are going to spend.
The other important part of a basketball hoop is the rim. The rim technology has enhanced over the past decades and continues to grow which has introduced a variety of rims.
The 18-inch diameter is pretty standard for rims, but what varies is how it’s attached to the backboard.
A standard rim is simply screwed into the backboard which makes it stable. But this type of rim is not good for dunking since it doesn’t offer flexibility. But they’re cheaper.
Contrarily, the breakaway rims use the spring compression technology to flex that gives a soft touch feel. A breakaway rim is also necessary for dunking. They come in two variations;
Expose compression springs that are cheaper but can rust over time since they’re in direct contact with air, light and rainwater. On the other hand, the covered compression springs are expensive but durable with better rust protection.
